End of the year, I miss them already!

Today was the last day of school and man, did we have a blast!  I gave the students 'buckets of fun' to play with this summer.

We started the day with some classroom awards.  I had awards for Accelerated Reader (top 3 points earned), Math Fact Quizzes (top 3 average scores), and Spelling (top 3 average scores).

We had a little photo shoot featuring many different emotions.

They got to draw on the cleaned off whiteboard until it was time for Elementary Awards.

We spent the rest of the morning at the city park, where we had a surprise waiting for us.  Our elementary school was ranked number 1 in the state, and as a reward there were 4 inflatables on the football field.  To say the kids had fun is an understatement.  Some took a break from jumping to play on the other equipment.

We ended the morning with a picnic lunch.

These kids truly have no idea how much I am going to miss them.  I'll miss their laughter and giggles, their smiles and hugs, their questions and challenges, their creativity and talent.  Each one of them has etched out a permanent place in my heart!  Keep being amazing kiddos, make me proud!

Love,

May

I can't believe the end of the year is here already.  We have packed so much in this last month its been a bit of a whirlwind!  The first graders earned one more popcorn party at the end of the year and we went BIG with Trolls.  Usually they stay in their desks but this time since it was a long movie I let them use pillows and bean bags to get comfortable.
Our spring concert was such a good time.  Everyone sang old rock and roll songs and had such cute props and actions.  The first graders sang "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" and "Rockin' Robin" and the girls danced with the high school girls to "The Hand Jive".

Quick selfie before we left for the concert
After the concert, everyone's families came to the room to look at our art work and projects we have made.  We made some cool watercolor rainbow hair pictures to hang in the hallway.

We also had these hand painted flower pots filled with growing flowers for Mother's Day to take home after the concert.  In front of the flower pots are cards made from their hand prints and turned into butterflies.

Giraffes are my favorite- I wasted more time than I care to admit waiting for April to have her baby... So I was so excited to see these awesome oil pastel giraffes come back with the kids from art class.  One sweetheart even gifted me hers instead of taking it home.
We wrote a group letter to the Kindergarters filling them in on the fun they are going to have in first grade next year.  Everyone chose 1 sentence to read aloud in our letter.  They did an amazing job reading to the Kindergarteners.

Then the 2nd graders came to our classroom and read to us about 2nd grade.  Boy oh boy are these students ready for 2nd grade!

We had one last special show and tell to finish out the school year.  Georgia's dad came in and read a Lego Starwars book to everyone.  They loved it, and so did he!

Odds and Ends

I'm now going through all of my pictures from this spring and they may end up in this post if they have not found a home yet...

A high school student came in to our room to complete a project for FCCLA.  The first graders made Eye-Spy bottles out of plastic pop bottles (recycling), wheat, and tiny objects.  They filled the bottles with wheat and the itty bitty objects, shook it all up, and started spying things!  The first graders always have a blast when they can work with the "big kids".

Here is everyone working so well together in their reading centers.

To prep for Easter we decorated paper eggs with shaving cream and paint.  All swirled around like that, some of them looked like they were covered in toothpaste.

The Kindergarteners-3rd Graders got to go on an Easter egg hunt on the playground.  For as long as it takes us to hide the eggs, it sure is amazing how fast they are all found!

The Elementary Student of the Month was our Georgia!  She is such a great worker and proud recipient!

We celebrated Earth Day a little late since our weather was not cooperating.  The entire school walked around town and picked up trash.  They had the best "garbage sensing eyes" and collected plenty.  Everyone was rewarded with ice cream treats donated by the grocery store.

Luckiest Leprechauns

March was great, it flew by so fast I need these pictures to remember everything that happened!  We started the month off making a craft (of course) for the bulletin board.  I put different colors of green paint on a paper with a shamrock and the kiddos rolled bouncy balls through the paint and over the paper.  I always like doing this kind of painting at least once a year.

We started doing even more partner reading in class.  They all read so well and are excellent listeners, especially to each other.

One of our lessons in our writing class was writing a friendly letter.  We had written to Santa earlier this year but wanted to write another letter.  Each student got to pick who to write a letter to.  Letters were written to grandmas, cousins, friends, and moms.  We walked to the post office to mail our letters and we even had some replies mailed back to us at school.  Such a cool lesson.

Then you'll never guess what happened around the middle of March... ST. PATRICK'S DAY!! Unfortunately, St. Patrick's Day was on our Spring Break day so we did not get to try to catch the leprechaun.  But that sneaky guy came to our room anyway and messed our classroom up!  Look at all this evidence...

Good news is that he left us Lucky Charms for a snack!
