Its only November??

It feels like January here, BRRRRRRR!  I cannot believe this weather is here so early, hopefully it warms up a little and that sticks around for a while.

At the beginning of the month we had our Character Counts day again.  We learn about Respect in November.  We talked about how we need to treat others the way we want/expect to be treated.  We all wore yellow to school, I was impressed with all the yellow we had that day!

We had a fun time brainstorming ideas for our Thanksgiving bulletin board.  We decided to save the turkey this year and eat something else.  The 1st graders chose to eat spaghetti, jerkey, crab, ham and potatoes, berries, mashed potatoes and gravy, fish and meatloaf instead.

The kids made some crazy feathered turkeys for our hallway project.  I love how individual and unique each turkey ended up, just like these kids!  Attached to these guys is a writing project stating what each 1st grader is thankful for.  They are thankful for food, cars, parents, siblings, and of course their teacher ;)

We just finished up a chapter in science about animals.  It is one of the most fun chapters in the whole book, according to the kids.  We talked about 6 different kinds of animals- mammals, insects, amphibians, reptiles, fish, and birds.  We looked in magazines to find all the different kinds of animals and made collages.  Poor amphibians, none of our magazines had frogs in them!!  Looks like Ms. Anglin needs to collect different magazines :)

To end our chapter the students all made animal magnets.  These always turn out so cute.  This year some of the animals made were a crab, a snake, a fish, a monkey, a cat, and a whale.

I just couldn't resist buying these little fellas this summer...  They were so cute and great to use as a reminder of the growth cycle of a frog.

Have a great Thanksgiving!

Ironman, Belle, and a Horse... oh my!

So Halloween got away from me!  Here are some things we did to hang in the hallway and decorate our classroom.

We had some very creative ghosts hanging out on our bulletin board!  As the board says, this class is spook-tacular!

We made owls out of left over scrap book paper to hang in the hallway.  They did a good job keeping an eye out for everyone!

We painted pumpkins to put in the windows of our classroom.  Everyone did an awesome job painting.  We had stripes, polka dots, color blocks, and even a Rapunzel!

Some ladies from 4H came to the school and talked to all of the elementary students.  They taught us what the 4 Hs are and what 4H is all about.  Then we got to make a 4 leaf clover with our hands!  That paint was cool :)

We worked together with the 2nd grade class to make Halloween Hands.  We filled plastic gloves with candy corn for fingernails, then popcorn the rest of the way.  Once we tied off the end of the glove we added a creepy spider ring to a finger.  We had a lot of fun making this project!

Here is the group dressed up on Halloween.  Nice picture then a scary (can't you tell?) picture.  This year there was a horse, Spider Girl, Belle, 2 Ironmans, Elsa, a swat team member, and a Monster girl in the 1st grade room.  We had a blast trick or treating at the nursing home, assisted living, and high school.

I think that is all for an October recap!

Think warm thoughts :)
