Fire Safety Week

The 1st full week in October was Fire Safety Week.  We talked about smoke alarms, Stop-Drop-Roll, emergency plans, and all kinds of fire related things.  The best part was when we went to the Fire Hall on a field trip!  We made the journey with the 2nd grade class.  Here are pictures of our fun time:

This was just too cute not to take pictures of!  On our walk to the Fire Hall they chose to hold hands :)  Melt my heart little ones...

Fireman Dave taught us all about fire safety also!  He showed us different kinds of fire extinguishers and explained what each kind was made for.  He even dressed in his bunker gear for us!  Man he was warm after that.  We each got to hold his helmet- we had no idea it was so heavy.

Next we went into the bay and saw all of the different kinds of trucks our fire department has.  He showed us the hoses all coiled up, where the hoses hook up to on the water tanks and we even saw the jaws of life.  An old ambulance stores a lot of equipment that the firemen need and it has air conditioning for those HOT summer fires.

Then we went outside and he showed us how a fire extinguisher actually works.  A lot of us have never seen one in action- which is a good thing!

Next, the coolest thing happened... He drove out a fire truck and we all got to hold the hose and spray water!

Right before we left the Fire Hall we got a special treat.  Our own red fireman hats!
Don't we look good?

We had such a great day.  I am so appreciative of the members of our community that take the time to teach our students!  They loved every minute of our adventure.
