Fabulous First Week!

School has begun and the first week was great!  The week really seemed to fly by!  We did lots of fun things this week :)

These little treats of S'mores goldfish were waiting on the desks when everyone came to school the first day.  The tag says "I am S'more than excited that you are o'fish'ally a first grader!"  Super cute if I do say so myself.

Here is the whole first grade class looking so excited and eager on the first day of school.

Then the crazy teacher had to join in the picture and demand that it be a silly one!  We will be working on our silly faces this school year, not everything needs to be so serious all the time, right?  You can't quite tell by the picture, but there are a lot of crossed eyes, funny noises, and giggles here!
I read the story "The Kissing Hand" and we all made our own Chester Raccoons.  I had an example on the board and gave simple directions.  They all did such a wonderful job cutting and gluing exactly like I had asked.  Then they got to pick out a color of paint for their hand print and squished their hand in it.  Most of them enjoyed getting a little messy.  They then picked out a special heart for the middle of their hand print.

We did a fun 'get to know you' activity this week too.  Everyone had a puzzle piece sheet with certain things they had to find.  They had to "Find Someone Who..." has a cat, is wearing sandals, rides the bus, has a brother or sister, likes math, etc.  They were all a little shy at first but then got the hang of going around the room and asking their classmates questions about themselves.  This was great for everyone in our class, especially since we have 2 new students this year.  All of the students did a great job!

This week I also read the book "Chrysanthemum" and we talked about being different and unique, we also talked about bullying and being nice to everyone.  We made a graph of the letters in our names on the board then made a craft showing how unique and special our names are.  These went on the bulletin board right away.  This activity came from First Grade Blue Skies

Thanks for checking in on our first week of school!  Check back next week-- its Homecoming week!
